Giorgia Angiuli collaborates for WHO fund

Italian live performer and multi-instrumentalist Giorgia Angiuli has launched a new open source audio project in support of research against the spreading of coronavirus by inviting any producers and musicians self-isolating in their studios to collaborate with her.

In a statement Giorgia Angiuli explains: ‘Just because we have to keep distance, and can’t meet each other, doesn’t have to mean that we can’t work together on a new project. I’ll start recording some sounds and share my Ableton project with you. I call you all to add the other elements. It’s an ambitious project and I am positive we’ll make it together!’

The goal is to unite ALL TOGETHER by composing a track to help us carry on through these difficult times while also raising money for the  WHO and UN charity fund to fight SARS 2 – CoV. Anyone can participate and the final parts will be selected by the artist herself.  The project is in partnership with Label Worx who will support the distribution, and also with Beatport who are behind the idea. ‘UNITED’ will be credited to Giorgia Angiuli along with all the producers who make it into the final selection and arrangement. All the participants will also create a videoclip that will take shape as a puzzle and is already expected to go viral.

The money raised by selling the track will be donated to the COVID-19 Fund for the World Health Organization.  The solidarity fund supports WHO and partners in a massive effort to help countries prevent, detect and manage the novel coronavirus – particularly those where the needs are the greatest.

New Portable album released

The new Portable album has been released on the artist’s own label Khoikhoi Records. The 8-track LP unleashes yet another other-worldly wealth of solitary electronic craftmanship and represents Portable’s 6th album, two decades on from his debut release. A diverse range of sounds all in the South African’s signature style converge through driving and bubbling melody-fuelled dancefloor journeys (This Horizon, It’s Been Long ft. Korus, You Hacked Me) into softer, ambient moments (One Earth). This truly is a special selection of treats from the Parisian-based producer, with Laurent Garnier hailing ‘Ohh whaouuu… excellent album’, Honey Dijon describing it as ‘so good’ and Motor City Drum Ensemble saying ‘love your harmonies and rhythm programming, especially ‘Climb’ is perfect for me to play out, also really enjoyed the quieter tracks like ‘One Earth’. The Transit Of Mercury is available on all major platforms, check out the video for ‘This Horizon’ below.

Royalties to include data from MRT

Music creators will receive royalties from performances of their music played by DJs in nightclubs, as PRS for Music and PPL expand their distribution policies to include data generated from music recognition technology, in turn improving the accuracy of royalty distributions.

The policy changes come following a year-long nationwide pilot carried out by the two music rights organisations. The pilot tested the accuracy of music recognition technology in identifying music played by DJs and evaluated how the data gathered could be used to supplement existing distribution methods.

Members of both organisations receive their first royalty payment from data collected and reported via music recognition technology in nightclubs this year.

A small music recognition device installed in participating nightclubs, listens to the music a DJ plays and analyses it against a database of millions of individual sound recordings, creating highly accurate setlist information. PRS for Music and PPL then use this setlist information to distribute royalties back to the creators of those recordings and works.

Over 31 million seconds of music have been captured by music recognition technology in participating nightclubs so far, with up to 95% of all music played successfully reported back to PRS for Music and PPL.

Now both organisations are calling for more venues to adopt the devices and encourage members to upload their recordings and metadata to chosen tech partner, DJ Monitor, to ensure continued positive progression for the future.
